USU Applications done!

So I got all my application stuff submitted to USU. Now for the long and nail-biting wait.

Happy Anniversary!!!!

Happy Anniversary to my Mother and Father who have now been married for 30 years!

I love you mom and dad!

Grad School Applications Part 3

I just finished up with USU’s application, minus the Letter of Intent, which I am just beginning. I took the GRE on Saturday, so all the big steps are done.

I also finished a new design of a business card this morning:

Last week I left Best Buy to go frame again. It was nice working in a warm building, but I really do miss building. And the pay is a LOT better framing; almost twice as much per hour, which results in a paycheck about 3-4 times bigger due to how many hours I can work framing.

Grad School Applications Part 2

So I just got off the phone with Craig, and a guy at University of Nevada Reno (Peter Goin wasn’t in; he’s getting ready for a semester-long trip to Mexico). Craig was excited to see me apply again.  I also got an appointment scheduled to take the GRE (to the tune of $140), which I’ll have to take next Saturday, so all this week I’ll be studying for that. EW!

Graduate School Applications

I’ve almost got the main application done for USU. I just have three more sections to fill out, and I’ll be done with that part of it, and then I need to complete the department application stuff. I need to take a GRE or MAT, like within the next week or so (yikes). I tried calling Craig Law down there today, but couldn’t reach him.

I’m getting so stoked to get this done. It’s been far too long since I’ve been in Academia, and I really do miss it. Also, I am glad that I hit that rut that I was in down in Utah. I’ve been able to really evaluate how passionate I am about photography, and about pursuing an M.F.A., and I would say that I’m even more passionate about photography than I was previously.

I got in!

I just got home from work, and was checking my email, and I got one about the Altered Landscape show.

I’m in!

So this week I’ll be getting it printed, framed, and shipped to Portland. I’m so stoked!

Edit: Does anyone have any tips for shipping framed prints?

Oh, and I think I may have to try to get out to the reception…It’s going to be a busy month with getting grad school applications finalized (which I hope to do next week), and getting the print shipped.

Texas Slough…Again

Ugh…I really need to quit posting so late at night.

Anyway, today, an old friend of mine, Tyler, and I got together for the first time since my return from Utah and went photographing today, and we decided to hit the sloughs west of Rexburg again. Well, again for me, I think it was his first time (correct me if I’m wrong when you read this Tyler). We went to Texas Slough, and I think it was successful for both of us.

Along the slough, there is a pretty sharp oxbow that I have always loved, but never could really figure how to photograph it. I came really close, if not all the way to nailing it today. Take a look:

or this one that has been cropped (I can’t decide which I like more. They’re both just digital snaps, and don’t particularly consider either to qualify for a final piece):

I also made Tyler pull his suburban around so I could get on top and make a photograph somewhat similar to the third panel. I don’t like the digital file at all, so you all will have to wait until I get my 4×5 negative developed and scanned to see it. Don’t worry, I think it will be worth the wait.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of photographing this scene, or the whole slough for that matter:

I’m really beginning to think I should just do a project on Texas Slough. Every time I go there I fall even more in love with it, and it really has a lot of potential.
