Today me and my brother Casey went to the vent at Hell’s Half Acre. Here’s a satellite photo from Google Earth.
It was about a 4.5 mile hike to the vent all on the lava flow. It killed our knees and ankles, but other than that, it was a pretty decent hike. Inside the vent there were 7-8+ holes that I hoped would lead to tunnels, but they didn’t, although a few of them had some standing water at the bottom.
I tried making a few photographs with my digital camera, but I was without a tripod, and it was really windy, so they turned out as nothing more than basically snapshots of the trip. And I wasn’t too thrilled about the light. Anyway, here are the few that made the blog cut:
I’d like to go back and remake this one with the 4×5, or at the very least, with the digital on a tripod.
